In the NE part of the site an oval, battered brick traverse, present on an 1806 map, remains standing. It was originally associated with a gunpowder corning mill that fell into disuse by c.1827. A United States Arsenal, erected in approximately the same location in 1819, moved to the village of Summerville in 1827, after the commandant determined it a healthier location.
